In the U.S., “Alphabet St.” enjoyed a brief time in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot and the album was certified Gold, selling over , copies, but subsequent singles did not sell quite as well.

As an artistic statement, the initial CD release of the album was not split into tracks, but was instead tracked as one single track, designed to be listened to as a whole (track titles were included, however).
